21st July 2018 – Open Day for National Park City Week @ Crofton Park Railway Garden

We are joining events across London to celebrate the Capital’s greenspaces. National Park City week is being led by the Mayor of London working with the National Park City Foundation.

The Garden will be open from 10am to 5.30pm for different activities, fundraising to raise the rest of the funds for the landscaping works, due to commence this Autumn.

Your support is most welcome. Drop in to look around, hear about the plans, relax and meet fellow neighbours or join one of the workshops running on the day – listed below.

 

Walk the Brockley Three Peaks Trail

 

Celebrate #NationalParkCity week by exploring the green spaces of the Brockley Three Peaks Trail!

 

 

  • Pick up your Three Peaks maps at the garden along with a 10% discount voucher to use at participating ‘pit-stop’ venues along the Brockley Three Peaks route
  • Buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of two Coop Shopping Baskets (Morning Breakfast Basket or the Fair Trade Coop Wine Basket)
  • Return after your day out on Brockley’s Peaks to join some of the other workshops at the garden

 

 

11am – 1pm: Art In Nature Workshop* for Kids – Making Fairy Dust Pouches

 

This creative ‘Art In Nature’ workshop to develop children’s creative skills while also supporting them to connect with nature and explore the natural environment in their own community.

 

  • Suitable for ages 5-11 years
  • Time: From 11am to 1pm (Last chance to drop into the art session at 12.30pm)
  • Location: Crofton Park Railway Garden – Entrance on Marnock Road, off Brockley Road
  • In partnership with PencilYouIn.art
  • A contribution of £3.50 will cover costs and help fundraise for the community garden’s landscaping works.

 

 

1pm – 2pm: Wild About Oak Storytelling*

 

This ‘Learning In Nature’ storytelling workshop will teach about the Oak Tree and its purple butterfly friend the Favonius quercus, making it a fun and interactive way to learn about one of Britain’s native trees and the wildlife it supports.

 

  • Time: From 1pm to 2pm (this is a fixed hour session)
  • Location: Crofton Park Railway Garden – Entrance on Marnock Road, off Brockley Road
  • In partnership with @BaringTrust
  • A contribution of £3.50 will cover costs and help fundraise for the community garden’s landscaping works.

 

*If attending both kids’ workshops on the day the price will be £6 for both

 

 

2pm – 3pm & 3pm – 4pm: Sensory Flavour Tour

 

In partnership with Flavour Sense this interactive ‘Sensory Flavour Tour’ workshop must not be missed! Join and explore how our senses inform and influence our perception of food and flavour. You will discover what the shape of ‘sour’ is; and what the ‘happiest’ fruit is; and how our sense of taste is affected by our sense of sound and touch! This truly immersive sensory journey will amplify your appreciation of the taste experience. You will never see food in the same way again!

 

  • Due to limited space we recommend you book via Eventbrite. If there is spare capacity on the day, it will be offered to first come.
  • Time: Two workshop sessions have been organised: 2pm-3pm or 3pm-4pm
