Developing a Detailed Design for the Railway Garden
Having launched our tender in July 2018 to secure a contractor willing to take on the landscaping works, it became apparent that very few contractors out there want to take the risk with a community group, despite securing funding. We received some responses but none quite fitted with the bigger vision or couldn't promise to deliver all of the requirements or in time with our funding deadlines.
Having no luck, in October 2018 we were pleased to come across Mark Lane's work and got in touch. To our surprise he agreed to meet with us and discuss a way forward. Over the last few months we have been working with Mark Lane Designs to define the details to ensure a deliverable vision.
Verde Landscapes have now agreed to take on the structural landscaping works. The works are due to begin in February 2019.
The space will be transformed into a beautiful space for everyone to use, with four distinct habitat spaces: The social garden area; the woodland; the grassland and wildflower meadow; and the tranquil space at the end. Each part of the garden has been designed to also reflect the different sensory experiences as you move through the linear garden space.
We share with you some visuals of the design. Fingers crossed we will be able to secure the final bit of funding to also achieve the planting scheme as designed by Mark Lane. We'd also like to express wholehearted thanks to Mark who has invested a lot of extra time to make our vision a reality.... After a long journey, we can finally begin our make-over!
And of course, needless to say that none of this would have been possible without previous funding support from @LewishamCouncil & @TNLComFund and the main grants covering the main landscaping works from @veoliaenvtrust and #GreenerCityFund @LDN_environment.
